Tulane's joint hearing board found a student guilty of rape April 18. The board did not suspend or expel the student, and as such, the student remains part of the Tulane community. The accused could not be reached for comment.

Sanctions against him consisted of mandated counseling at the Center for Educational Resources and Counseling, the continuation of a prior order of no communication with the victim and the continuation of a previous prohibition of entering residence halls.

Simple Burglary

On April 18, a student reported that his room was burglarized by another student. The reporting person said that he and the suspect are no longer friends because of the latter's drug habit. The suspect apparently took the reporting person's 40 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol and told a mutual friend that he had taken the property.

In our final staff editorial of the 2007-2008 academic year, we at the Tulane Hullabaloo have a very clear message for the Administration: our community, students, faculty and staff all want to know what is going on behind the oak doors of Gibson Hall.

We do not know how to make that demand any more apparent.

For a school with mandatory community service, Tulane does not adequately provide community service courses for all majors.

Respect American music

There's a good reason why the full name of the Jazz Fest is "The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival." All the music played there is a fundamental part of American high culture.

During the 20th century, American culture truly came into its own in a big way; yet some of the considerable musical accomplishments of our society have been frowned upon, largely by pompous academics (and other similar figures), and dismissed as "trivial," "paltry," or any other such adjective.

Unfair TUPD attack

In response to "From headlines to headaches: TUPD's neglect gets personal" (April 18), I spent two weeks muddling through the Hullabaloo's recent rash of anti-TUPD rhetoric. I used to dismiss it as generally one sided and unappreciative of how police are actually supposed to function.

Harry breathes the coming air of summer with great relish. Once again, Harry will not graduate and will be stalking his old haunts next year as a new crop of soft-skinned, vulnerable freshman girls will arrive on Tulane's campus in the fall. Harry drools with anticipation…

Harry has yet again angered many groups on campus this past year.

Tulane was looking for a sweep. It would be its first in conference play and would have given the Green Wave a nice 7-4-1 conference record. However, Tulane was unable to get the job done, losing 10-8 to Southern Miss, which put even more pressure on Tulane to beat LSU Tuesday at Turchin Field.

With the tightest regular-season race ever in the Western Conference this season, this year's playoffs will be one of the most closely matched in history. Thus far, we have already seen an instant classic and a record performance.

Liverpool Falters at the Death, Draws Chelsea 1-1

At the beginning of this week's game, Liverpool, appearing in its third Champion's League semi-final in four years, seemed poised to take a one goal advantage to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge next week.

However, Reds defender John Arne Riise unexpectedly put the ball into his own net, conceding a coveted away goal to the Chelsea Blues, and the team now heads into the second leg of the matchup at a disadvantage.

Sixteen teams in 16 cities across the country have survived that 82 game juggernaut that is the regular season and have given their fans some justifiable measure of optimism.
"[Rob Segedin is] very deserving there. What he did for us on the mound, what he did for us at third base, and the offensive week he had, that's special for anybody. Certainly for a freshman, though, that's even more impressive. I don't think there's any question that he is one of the premier freshmen in the country.
