I. Is Gloria Asumnu the greatest female athlete in Tulane history? While some may not feel so, no one can deny that the senior indoor sprinter is the fastest short distance runner in Conference USA. Asumnu took the 60-meter dash crown at the conference indoor track championships with a C-USA-record time of 7.22 seconds, tying her previous mark set at the same meet in 2007. Oh, and she also won the 200m event and played an integral role in the Tulane 4x400 meter relay team's first-place finish. She may end up on the Mount Rushmore of Tulane female athletes along with the likes of former All-American basketball players Grace Daley and Stacey Gaudet, and former track sensation Marshanda Hall.

II. Finally! After dropping two of three to No. 13 UC Irvine over the weekend, Tulane baseball beat in-state rival Northwestern State 4-3 Tuesday on a single by junior Warren McFadden in the bottom of the 11th inning. But the big breakthrough came in the second game of the series when Tulane's hitting scored 18 runs on 23 hits in an 18-11 victory. The hit barrage was led by impressive freshman Rob Segedin, who tied a school record for hits by going six-for-six with a home run and six RBIs. The run total doubled the total runs scored in the Wave's previous four games. If the Green Wave lineup can stay aggressive at the plate and put up anywhere near 18 runs for the rest of the season, Tulane will make its third trip to Omaha this decade.

III. The Hornets received a much-needed boost to their lineup with the return of starting forward David West, who missed three games with a sprained ankle. The All Star came back in style, dropping 29 points and 10 rebounds as the Hornets crushed the defending champions, the Spurs, 100-75. West's return couldn't have come at a better time, as the Hornets face the Conference-leading Lakers at home on Friday. The rough schedule continues next week against the East elite, the Celtics and the Pistons, with a home game against the Rockets, winners of 20 straight, the second-longest winning streak in NBA history Every game is important in the competitive Western Conference, and West's health may be the difference between a low playoff seed or home court advantage for the Hornets.
