This past Tuesday, Green Wave baseball fell short to Southeastern Louisiana, 12-11. Tulane (16-7) was defeated in game two of the Senator's Cup Series by the Lions. Tulane seemed as though they were able to take an early lead but couldn't quite match up against the Lions, who came back with three hits in the third, two in the fourth and a pounding five in the sixth. After Tulane's attempt to retaliate with three runs in the top of the seventh, Southeastern didn't hesitate to slam with three more runs and end the game. For now, the Green Wave have had a productive season with a few faltering losses, but we will see if they can really match up in the Conference USA opening game against UAB in Birmingham, Ala. Hopefully with the intense energy and support of fellow Tulanians, the next home game against McNeese will leave their right fielder a mess and us with a win.
March Madness is here, and the brackets are locked in. North Carolina, the favorite and No.1 overall seed in the tournament, has been overlooked as the media focuses on the prowess of UCLA and Memphis. It is a little mind-boggling that sports networks like ESPN would even call Davidson the most impressive team in the tournament so far while Carolina has been posting 100+ point games against the last two opponents. Of course, the Tar Heels traditionally get lots of media attention, and they will again when they win the tournament this year.
The city of Boston just won't let up. First the New England Patriots, though they lost the Super Bowl, dominated the football season with a perfect 16-0. The World Series last year was a victory for the Red Sox, who swept the first four games against the Rockies. Now, basketball seems to have taken control. The Boston Celtics not only broke the 22-game winning streak of the Houston Rockets, but went on to defeat the remaining two Texas teams of the Texas Triangle, the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics are leading the Atlantic Conference with a record of 55-15, better than any team in the NBA. The only question that remains is if the Celtics can win the NBA Championship and redeem the city after it lost out on a Super Bowl.
